GEORGE ARTHUR EUGENE "GENE" FLAHERTY

George Arthur Eugene "Gene" Flaherty, 66, longtime Okmulgee resident, died Thursday, May 18, 2000 at his home. He was born January 30, 1934 in Spiro, Oklahoma to Benjamin E. and Otta Gertrude (Keys) Flaherty.

He held a certificat of welding from the State of Wyoming.  He moved to Okmulgee from Wyoming 27 years ago.  He was of the Pentecostal faith and was active in Senior Citizen activities.  He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, two sisters, and 14 half-brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, of the home; a son Clayton Flaherty of Illinois; two daughters, Shanna Flaherty of Okmulgee and Wynona Davis and husband Scott of Ft. Gibson; one sister, Maggie Elnoire of Arkansas; seven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Friday, May 19, at 10:00a.m. at the Okmulgee Cemetery.  The Rev. Terry Harmon and Rev. Guy Langston will officiate.  Services are under Direction of the Kelley Funeral Home.

JERRY FLAHERTY

Jerry Edward Flaherty, 52, of Ozark, died Saturday, March 1, 2003. He was born February 15, 1951 in Spiro, Oklahoma to Lewis Edward and Doris (Hatcher) Flaherty. Graveside service was at 2p.m. Wednesday, March 5 at Peeveyhouse Cemetery in VanBuren and was officiated by Rev. Robin Hood under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.

He is survived by his mother, Doris Flaherty of Ozark; 11 sisters, Brenda Phillips of Hunt, Gloria Jane Bartsch of Subiaco, Linda O'Kula of Las Vegas, Nevada, JoAnn McMasters of Blue Mountain, Kathy Jackson of Ozark, Mary Moore of Clarksville, Angela Predmore of Alexander, Molly Brixie of Alexander, Otta Ruston of Alexander, Polly Henslee of Alexander, Doris Calhoun of California; five brothers, Lewis Flaherty of Lamar, Truman Charles Flaherty of Coal Hill, Jackie Flaherty of Altus, Steven Flaherty of Lavaca and Thomas Flaherty of Scranton.

Pallbearers were Charles Bartsch, Harold Phillips, Doyle Bowman, Randy Henslee, Ricky Jackson and Phillip Brixie.

Honorary pallbearers were brothers and nephews.

ETHEL LAVADA (MOORE) FLAHERTY

Ethel L. Flaherty, 80, of Spiro, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2002, in Arkoma. She was born July 11, 1921 at Paris, Arkansas to Phillip Washington and Francis Pauline (Collins) Moore. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in Death by her husband, Thomas Albert Flaherty; two daughters, Collean Freeman and Francis Massey-Real; her parents; one sister; four brothers; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Survivors include four daughters, Lois Boone and Debra Johnson, both of Spiro; Marie Maida of Bauxite, Arkansas and Irene McKinney of Keota; two sons, Thomas Flaherty of Commerce and Curtis Flaherty of Spiro; 26 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1p.m. Tuesday, June 25 at the Birch Chapel Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Bryan Fouts officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.

RUTH MARIE 'PINKIE' (MASSEY) FLAHERTY

Ruth Flaherty, 53, of Spiro died Thursday, July 10, 2003, in Fort Smith. Graveside service will be 2p.m. Saturday at New Hope Cemetery in Spiro under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.

She is survived by her husband Curtis; a daughter, Kathleen Flaherty of Spiro; a son, Tommy Flaherty of Spiro; a sister, Tassa Drake of Sacramento, California; and a brother, William Massey of Reno, Nevada. The body may be viewed at the funeral home.

RANDY MASSEY FLAHERTY

Randy Michael Massey Flaherty, 32, of Spiro died Saturday, January 22, 2000, in Spiro. He attended the Calvary Southern Baptist Church in Spiro.

Funeral will be 10a.m. Friday in Mallory Funeral Home Chapel of Spiro, with burial at New Hope Cemetery in Spiro.

He is survived by his wife, Brigette; one daughter, Shantel Massey of the home; his parents, Ruth Massey and Curtis Flaherty of Spiro; his grandmother Ethel Flaherty of Spiro; one sister, Kathleen Flaherty of Spiro; and a brother Tommy Flaherty of Spiro.

JAMES F. FLAHERTY

James F. Flaherty III, 58, of Waldo, passed away Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009 at his home in Waldo. He was born Dec. 10, 1950 in Waldo to the late James Franklin Flaherty Jr. and Doris Ann (Pullig) Flaherty. He practiced law in Houston for many years before returning to his hometown of Waldo. He is preceded in death by his parents; and uncle, James Lovett Pullig. James is survived by his companion for life, Robert Ross of Waldo; a sister, Anne Flaherty Brock of Houston, and her children, Lt. David Jackson and wife Lori of Cobbs Creek, Va., Greg Jackson and wife Christy of Alabaster, Ala., and Kara Brock and Andrew Woltje of Houston; one great niece, four great nephews; and his aunt, Norma (Pullig) Field of Dallas Texas. A family memorial service will be held in Houston at a later date.

BOBBY FLAHERTY

MURFREESBORO, Ark.—Bobby Joe Flaherty, 81, of Murfreesboro died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, in a local hospital. Mr. Flaherty was born March 28, 1927, in Murfreesboro. He was a retired heavy-equipment operator for Arkansas Highway Department and a Navy veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Francis White Flaherty. Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Bobby Wayne Flaherty and Michael and Gay Flaherty of Murfreesboro; one brother, Jimmy Dale Flaherty of Murfreesboro; and one grandson, Shawn Flaherty of Magnolia.

FLORA FRANCES (WOOD) MARTIN

"Sugar Grandma" Age 73, died on March 24, 2004, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on April 30, 1930, in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Eugene Wood and Hettie Flaherty. She married Dale F. Martin on July 19, 1952. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many callings. She is survived by her husband Dale, daughter Susan, son Dale (Debi), grandson Zachery, sisters Geri (Charles) Fox, Margaret (Glade) Inglet, Emma (Grant) Richins and brother Dana (Alma) Wood, and many nieces and nephews. Her parents and a brother, Raymond, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 29, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Crescent South Stake Center, 275 East 10600 South, Sandy. Viewing for the immediate family as per Fran's request. Interment Lake Hills Cemetery, Sandy, Utah.

DORIS (HATCHER) FLAHERTY

Doris Irene Hatcher Flaherty, 76, of Ozark died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007, in a Fort Smith hospital. A native of Scranton, she was a daughter of the late Brit and Johnnie Bell Hickey Hatcher, widow of Lewis Edward Flaherty, and was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Edward Flaherty; and one granddaughter, Dakota Lynn Contant. She is survived by 11 daughters, Brenda Phillips and Mary Moore, both of Clarksville, Gloria Bartsch of Subiaco, Linda O'Kuly of Las Vegas, Nev., JoAnn McMasters of Blue Mountain, Kathy Jackson and Doris Calhoun, both of Ozark, and Angela Predmoore, Molly Brixey, Otta Ruston and Polly Dickson, all of Alexander; five sons, Thomas Flaherty of Scranton, Jackie Flaherty of Altus, Stephen Flaherty of Corning, Lewis Flaherty of Lamar and Truman Flaherty of Coal Hill; 40 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren. Funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with Rev. Rickey Jackson officiating. Burial was in Pee Vee House Cemetery in Van Buren. Active pallbearers were David Davison, Travis Pelts, Doyle Bowman, Zack Contant, Scott Escalante and Stewart Watson. Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.

CHARLES EDWARD FLAHERTY

Charles Edward Flaherty, 65, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, in Fort Smith. He was born Oct. 4, 1939, in Fort Smith. He was a retired typesetter and a veteran. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Delicia and Odis Stephens of Mountainburg; six sisters, Sandra Skyle of Monroe, La., Carolyn Conley of Rudy, Diana Flaherty of Mulberry, Theresa Lacure of Greenwood, Gale Flaherty of Van Buren, and Andra Flaherty of Van Buren; two brothers, Gene of Detroit and Alvin of Little Rock; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at the home of Delicia. Arrangements under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.

RUBY ANN (BROWN) LAYTON

Mrs. Ruby Ann Layton, age 64, died Saturday, January 29, 2000, at her home near Marianna. Mrs. Layton was born December 11, 1935, in Oklahoma, to Leroy Brown and Viola Mae Flaherty Brown. She was a housewife and a member of the Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her mother Viola (Flaherty) Brown in January 2000, her father Leroy Brown in 1972, a son, bejamin Dearing in 1992, and two daughters, Opal Layton in 1967 and Shelia Layton in 1989.

She is survived by three sons, Thomas Layton of Bald Knob, Gary Layton and William Layton both of Marianna; a daughter, Cecilia Browning of McRae; six brothers, willie Brown of Monroe, Roy Brown of Oklahoma, Lewis Brown of Danville, Johnnie Brown of Houston, Joddie Brown and David Brown both of Marianna; four sisters, Mary Walker and Dorothy Ables both of Marianna, Alice Marshall of Searcy, and Ruth Hollis of Harrisburg; and 12 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held today, Monday, January 31, from 4 to 5p.m. at Morgan Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 1, 2000 at 10a.m. at the Church of God in Marianna with Rev. Ken Walls officiating. Burial will follow at Marianna Memorial Park under the direction of Morgan Funeral Home.  

 ROBERT ARLAND FLAHERTY

FLAHERTY--In San Jose, California on December 7, 1958, Mr. Robert A. Flaherty beloved husband of  Essie Flaherty of San Jose; loving father of Mr. Clarence R. Flaherty of Los Angeles, Mr. Elwood Flaherty of Marysville, and Mrs. Pauline Simmons of Vacaville; brother of Mrs. Lottie Raby of San Jose, Mrs. Cynthia Weaver and Martha Sherfield both of Oklahoma, and Mr. Perry Flaherty of Arkansas; a native of Missouri aged 78 years.

Funeral services Tuesday, December 9, 1958, at 2 p.m. from Chapel of Roses, Oak Hill Memorial Park.  Friends may call at Oak Hill Mortuary, 300 Stone Avenue.  Interment Oak Hill Memorial Park.

CLARENCE ROBERT FLAHERTY   

Funeral Services will be today for Clarence R. Flaherty, 61, of 3041 Walter St., who died Monday after a sudden illness.

The husband of Pauline Flaherty, he had lived in Santa Clara County for 36 years.  He was a native of Oklahoma.

Other survivors include his mother, Mrs. Essie Flaherty and son Robert, both of San Jose, and daughters Mrs. Arlene Mason of Sallinas, Mrs. Joyce Thornley of Oregon, Mrs. Pat Black of Roseville and Mrs. Jeanie McKinney of Oregon.

Others are brothers Gene Flaherty of Piedmont and Elwood Flaherty of Marysville, sister Mrs. Pauline Simmons of San Jose and 13 grandchildren.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. from Oak Hill Mortuary's Chapel of Roses.  Interment will be in Oak Hill Memorial Park.

JAMES FLAHERTY

Spiro--James Edward Flaherty, 69, of Spiro died Monday, February 28, 2000, in Fort Smith.  He was a member of the American Legion and veteran of the Korean War.  He was in the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard.

Cremation is under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Janet of Spiro, four daughters, Cheryl Belfy of Temperance, Mich., Diane Kuhn of Perrysburg, Ohio, Merrie-Ann Ferow of Maumee, Ohio and Carrie Anderson of Batavia, Ohio; three sons, Robert Webber of Lima, Ohio, Daniel Webber of Perrysburg and David Webber of Toledo, Ohio; and eight grandchildren.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

BENJAMIN WINSTON FLAHERTY

Ben W. (Silver Eagle) Flaherty, 69, of Bokoshe, died Tuesday, July 13, 1999 in a local nursing home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, several brothers and sisters and a daughter Sherrie Angel Flaherty.

He is survived by four daugthers, Deborah (Rosalee) Hawkins, Jewell Pauline Flaherty (Morseth), Jewell Pauline Flaherty Dart and Lula Angel Flaherty Brueski; two sons, Kenneth and James Wilson; two sisters, Maggie Shaver and Viola Brown; one brother Eugene Flaherty; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Vanessa Cheyenne.

Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m., Thursday, July 15, at New Hope Cemetery in Spiro, with burial following there.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home. Spiro. 

MAGGIE (FLAHERTY) SHAVER

Maggie Shaver, 86, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, November 11, 2003, in a local hospital.  She was born January 12, 1917, in Crawford County.  She was a homemaker and of the Jehovah Witness faith.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Oak Cemetery in Fort Smith.

She is survived by two daughters, Margie Bryant of Fort Smith and Edna Shurley of Muldrow; a son Kenith Shaver of Billings, Montana; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kevin and Russell Sanders, Troy and Tim Bryant, Phillip Newcomb and Terry Freeze.

KENNETH OWEN WILSON (BENJAMIN WINSTON FLAHERTY, JR)

Kenneth was my cousin and the son of Benjamin Winston and Verna Marie Pace Flaherty.  He was adopted by a family named Wilson.  I met him at the funeral of his father Benjamin Flaherty.  Below is his obituary.

Kenneth Owen Wilson, age 43, Joplin, passed away Monday, September 29, 2003, from injuries sustained in an accident.

Kenneth was born on October 17, 1959, in Hope, Arkansas, the son of the late Benjamin Flaherty.  He worked as a Class I Painter for Water Tower Maintenance, Inc.  He served in the United States Army.

He married Judy Brayman in November, 1993 in Joplin.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Wilson, of Joplin; one daughter Patricia McGonigal and her husband, Kelly, Carl Junction, Mo.; one brother James Wilson and his wife, Bregetta, Clarkston, Wash.; one sister, Laura Morseth, Bokoshe, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Michael McKinistry, whom he was raising as his son, Amber Edwards, Kelly Edwards, Kimberly Edwards, Shelia Starchman, Jonathan McGonigal and Greg Adamson; and four nieces, Jose Wilson, Kitrisha Wilson, Jewell Morseth and Tiffany Morseth.  He was preceded in death by one son, Todd McKinistry.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary, Jamie Lankford, minister, will officiate.  Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary.

MARTHA JANE (FLAHERTY) SHUFFIELD

Entered into eternal rest December 4, 1972

Seagraves (Special)--Services for Mrs. Martha Jane Shuffield, 94, are set for 2:00 pm Friday in the Church of God with Rev. Clyde Clark, Pastor officiating.  Mrs. Shuffield died Monday night in a Temple nursing home.

 Burial will be in Seagraves Cemetery under the direction of Webb Funeral Home.

Mrs. Shuffield was a native of Cashville, Missouri and a long time resident of Lawton, Oklahoma.

Survivors include three sons H.P. Shuffield of Seagraves,  J.R. Shuffield of Stinnett and C.J. Clark of Fritch; a daughter Mrs. Lottie Dennis of California; two sisters, Mrs. Lottie Raby of San Jose, California and Mrs. Cynthia Weaver of Sallisaw, Oklahoma; 24 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.  

WALTER FLAHERTY

Walter E. Flaherty, aged 85, of Belton (Hempstead County), died Tuesday morning, Sept. 4, at a Nashville hospital.  He was born Sept. 3, 1888 at Murfreesboro, Arkansas and was a retired farmer and a member of Avery's Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: three sons, James T. Flaherty and Felice U. Flaherty both of Nashville and Reo Flaherty of Little Rock; three daughters, Mrs. Irene Linam, Mrs. Doris McFarland both of Nashville and Mrs. Willie Belle Hoover and Mrs. Winnie Sweat both of McCaskill; three brothers, Clarence Flaherty, Melvin Falherty, and Carl Flaherty, all of Murfreesboro; two sisters, Miss Mable Flaherty and Miss Grace Flaherty both of Murfreesboro; seventeen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5 at the Avery's Chapel Church near McCaskill. Officiating minister was Rev. R.T. Jarrell. Burial was in Avery's Chapel Cemetery by the Latimer Funeral Services of Nashville.

MRS. GEORGE FLAHERTY (HATTIE MAE (WARD) FLAHERTY)

Mrs. George Flaherty was buried in Quaker Cemetery, Sunday. Services ere conducted by Rev. Will Hankins and Rev. J. C. Lowe. A large concourse of sorrowing friends and neighbors were present. Much sympathy was manifested. She leaves a husband and eight children to mourn her death. May heaven support and guide them in their sad bereavement.

CHARLES EUGENE FLAHERTY

Charles Eugene (Gene) Flaherty, 81, of Springfield, died on Tuesday, October 6, 2009.

Charles Eugene (Gene) Flaherty was born to Esta Mae (McCubbin) Flaherty and Charles Edward Flaherty on May 22, 1928 in Monett, Mo. He married the love of his life, Norma Lee (Vinson) Flaherty, on May 12, 1946.

Gene entered the Navy on May 22, 1946. He served as a SI MAM aboard the USS Nereus (AS 17) SubRon 7 Submarine Service. He was a World War II veteran and received the World War II Victory Medal. Following his discharge in March 1948, Norma gave birth to their precious daughter, Janet Lee (Flaherty) Watson.

While working in sales for Swift and Co., they moved to Springfield, Mo. Gene owned and operated restaurants and was very successful in food sales. He owned the White Mill Cafe located on Jefferson and Elm during the 50s and the Country Club Steak House located in the Country Club Shopping Center in the 60s. He retired from Kraft Foods in 1998.

Gene was a devout Christian and the family was members of St. Paul Methodist Church on Jefferson and Walnut. God came first in Gene and Norma's lives followed by their love for each other and dear love and devotion for family. Gene and Norma transferred their membership to Wesley United Methodist in 1991.

His loving Norma preceded him in death in December 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Janet Lee (Flaherty) Watson and her husband Eddie Watson of Cabool, Mo.; a grandson, Shawn Patrick Callaway of Springfield, Mo.; a granddaughter, Holly Lee (Callaway) Rogers and her husband Charles Rogers of Springfield, Mo.; a great grandson, Austin James Rogers and a great granddaughter, Katelyn Lee Rogers; a nephew, Frank Davidson of Springfield, Mo.; a niece, Marilyn Heagerty of Monett, Mo.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the staff and employees of Cox South Hospital as well as Oxford Home Health Care for their compassionate and excellent care of our loved one.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 8, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Greenlawn South. Graveside services will be Friday, October 9, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, Springfield, Mo.

MARVIN EUGENE FLAHERTY

Marvin E. Flaherty, 51, Lebanon, MO, died at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, 8:20 PM, December 24, 2004 after a short illness.
Marvin was born January 2, 1953 in Eagle Rock, MO the son of Alonzo and Maxine Flaherty. He had lived in Lebanon for the past two years and worked as a cook for Fort Leonard Wood. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons; Raymond Flaherty, Lebanon, MO, Jerry Flaherty, St. Louis, MO and Josh Flaherty, St. Roberts, MO; two daughters; Melissa Flaherty, Lebanon and Tisha Clark, Hawkinsville, OH; His mother Maxine Cox, Morrisville, MO; four sisters; Peggy Hoggard, Buxton, ND, Ruby Wallace, Wyandotte, OK, Karen Huckaby, Walnut Grove, MO and Mary Williams, Seneca; three grandchildren.
Funeral Services under the direction of Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 28, 2004 at the Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home Chapel with Dan Wohlenhaus officiating. Burial will be in the New Salem Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Terry H. Flaherty, 70, of Texarkana, Texas, died Thursday, April 3, 2008, at his home.

Mr. Flaherty was born March 26, 1938, in Waldo, Ark. He was retired from Cooper Tire and Rubber Co.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Flaherty of Texarkana; two sons and daughters-in-law, Donal and Janet Flaherty of Emmet, Ark., and Terry and Amber Flaherty of Winnsboro, Texas; three sisters, Jackie Jackson of Genoa, Ark., Joann Taylor of Magnolia, Ark., and Eris Shepheard of Waldo; two brothers, Jerry Flaherty.

James Franklin Flaherty, 58, of Waldo, passed away Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009 at his home. Services are pending with Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., of Magnolia.

MARJORIE MAXINE (BECK) FLAHERTY COX

Marjorie Maxine Cox, 88, of Seneca, passed away Monday, April 24, 2006, at her home.

Margorie Maxine Beck was born July 8, 1917, in Cassville, the daughter of Harry Edward and Clerey Clarina Florence Ross Beck. She had moved to the Seneca area in 1954 from Cassville. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

She married Alonzo Lee Flaherty, July 30, 1943, in Eureka Springs, Ark., and he preceded her in death in May 1957.

Survivors include: five daughters, Shelby Jean Shipley, of Springfield, Peggy Joyce Hoggard, Buxton, N.D., Ruby Fern Wallace, of Wyandotte, Okla., Karen Lee Huckeby, of Walnut Grove, and Mary Williams, of Seneca; 21 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son Marvin Eugene Flaherty, Dec. 24, 2004; two sisters and 10 brothers.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday with Rev. Jack Daniels officiating. Burial will be in the New Salem Cemetery east of Seneca on Norway Road. Pallbearers will be grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca.

PAULINA (FLAHERTY) BUSH

Mrs. Paulina (Flaherty) Bush Dead At the age of 84 years, Mrs. Paulina Bush, widow of the late Al Bush, passed away Sunday night Nov 21, at her home where the family had lived for many years, northeast of Cassville four and one-half miles. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the home of her son, Harry Bush. The services were conducted by Rev. C. E. Henderson of Cassville. The W. D. Koon undertakers were in charge of the burial. Burial was in the Quaker Cemetery by the side of the grave of her husband. Surviving of her immediate family are her three sons, Estel, Harry, and Roy all of whom live in this community. Mrs. Bush was born in West Virginia in 1883. Her maiden name was Flaherty. She was on of the pioneer residents of the Quaker Community and had many friends who held her in high esteem. Mr. Bush died last July. LOIS RETHA (FLAHERTY) WATKINS

Lois Retha (Flaherty) Watkins, age 95 of Camden, AR went to her heavenly home on Thursday, August 6, 2009. She was born on February 19, 1914 in Bethel Community (Columbia County) the eigth of ten children of Alvin (Bud) and Izzie (Perry) Flaherty.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Dale L. Watkins; one baby son; her parents; three brothers; Audrey, Otis and Arthur; six sisters, Effie, Altie, Dora, Beatrice, Ivie and Margaret.

She is survived by four children, Charles Watkins and wife Josie of North Little Rock, AR, Billy Watkins and wife, Ursula of Killeen, TX, Peggy Walthall and husband, Bobby of White Oak Lake, AR and Ann Walker and husband, Mike of Parkerfield, KN. She was also a very special Mamaw to fifteen grandchildren; twenty nine great grandchildren and eleven great-great grandchildren. She ws also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, and a wonderful church family.

She was a generous and caring person. She had a knack for meeting other people’s needs in very practical ways. If you ever had a smile, a hug, or a pie, cake or meal at her table, you were loved by a very special person. She valued God, family and friends. She worked in the nursery and preschool Sunday School as long as she was able. She also worked on the committee to provide meals for folks who had a death in the church family until age 90. The happiest time in her life was when she was surrounded by family and friends. These memories will always be cherished in our hearts. The three other siblings, who live out of the area, wish to express their profound appreciation to Peggy for looking after our mother in her last years. We are aware that this was a labor of love and God picked a very special person to accomplish this task. We will always be grateful and our prayers are that God will provide a special reward for Peggy’s efforts.

The family would like to thank Dr. DeLuca & staff and the staff of Valley Oaks Nursing Center. Their professional care provided in a patient and kind manner is deeply appreciated by all the family.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p. m. Saturday, August 08, 2009 at Proctor Funeral Home with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p. m. Friday, August 07, 2009 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cullendale First Baptist Church building fund or Ouachita County Hospice. The family and friends will be at the home of Bobby and Peggy Walthall, 501 Ouachita 15 (White Oak Lake-Starnes Landing Subdivision).
